Full job description
Shift and schedule
- Shift work
OHS
- Standard safe work practices are to be adhered to regarding lifting, repetitive motions, use of ladders and forklifts.
- Always push and never pull a heavy load like a red bin.
- The uses of masks and gloves is required as you are in contact with by-products of human waste.
- Because of a forklift present on the production floor, a high visibility safety vest is required to be worn.
- Steel cap boots must be worn
- The use of portable devices for listening to of music is not permitted. You need to hear from another employee or management without the other person having to spend extra time walking from where they are to interrupt you.
- The use of mobile phones for incoming calls is only permitted with hand free devices whilst on the production floor.
- Clean as you go. You are required to spot sweep any debris you see. Slips, Trips and Falls are the number one cause of workplace accidents.
Washing machine/Compressor
- The washing machines are to be powered up and down switches on the machine in addition to the wall socket plug.
- When the washing machine is not going to be used during the shift for any length of time, it is to be shut down.
- The Washing Machines is to be top up with sufficient water during the course of operation.
- A minimum of two dishwashing tablet per machine per day is required.
Bin Unloading
- Perform unloading of bins in a safe and efficient manner minimizing the amount of movement of bins from where the drivers left the bins to the area adjacent the washing machines.
- Load Red Bins to 95 percent capacity and top up with Nappy rubbish (if available).
- Position Red Bins in yard on Thursday for pickup on Friday’s before the Garbage Truck arrives.
Bin Washing
- Use optimal loading pattern to wash at least 20 bins per wash load.
- Take note of Bins with holes in the bottom of the bin. They are to be set aside for repair.
- Do not spend excessive time at wash station cleaning glue residue from sanitary napkins found on inside of modesty flap of bin. Set these bins lids to the side for later cleaning.
Bin Closing
- Only open bins that will be cleaned and closed the same day. Open bins with rubbish attract flies. Cleaned bins with granule not closed reduces the effectiveness of the scented.
Forklift
- Operation of Forklift is only to be performed with a valid forklift license.
Supplies
Report to management when low on supplies pertaining to:
- Spray on cleaning solutions
- Bin Labels
- Date labelling gun rolls
- Nappy bin liners
- Scented granules
- Dishwashing tablets
- Gloves
- Masks
- Hand Soap
- Paper Hand towels
- Toilet paper
- Other cleaning products used internall
Record keeping
Entries are required on the daily basis in the Vedder production Tally Sheet. The Sheet is to be submitted to management daily.
The recording of comments is the method of which to notify management of Supplies being low or other work-related events that need attention
Quality Assurance
It is expected:
- The person closing bins is to check if bin lids and bins are clean. If not, the item in question is reprocessed.
- Problems identified by drivers will require reprocessing. Under no circumstances is to be an expectation put back on to the driver to clean a bin or bin lid. Remember the driver is doing you a favour by being a final quality check.
- Bin lids and labels are to be presented in the best possible condition. Labels must not look shoddy, worn out or damaged. Remember the label represents Vedder.
Extra Duties
- The yard where the bins are kept are to be kept clear of excessive litter. Litter picks will be performed at the request of management.
- Cigarette butts are to be disposed of in the Smokers Sand bin provided. Periodic cleaning of the Smokers Bin is required.
- Toilet cleaning is everyone’s responsibility with the supplies provided for in the toilets. Wipe the sink after each use.
Fitness for Work
- You are required to be rested and fit for the prescribed duties of the Vedder Cleaner Job Description.
Breaks
- During the normal course of the 7.5-hour workday you are entitled to one 15-minute morning tea break and a 30-minute lunch break and 15-minute afternoon break. Smoking is only allowed during breaks.
- Breaks for production staff are not be taken at the same time. The operation of the washing machines must not stop during the course of the shift.
Production Quotas
- It is required that an adequate number of bins is to be ready on the floor the next morning for the drivers to pick up for their runs. An adequate number is a discretionary amount set by management on the day.
- Take note that your job is to clean bins. Work related to assisting the drivers is not permitted unless authorized by management.
Transport to and from work
- You are responsible for your own transportation to work.
- Under no circumstances is a cleaner to do a favour for a driver in order to get a ride to the “bus stop” or train station. A driver may provide a ride but not as favour.
